Competitive Robotics

A competitive robotics class where students build a micro:bit robot on the ElecFreaks Nezha board, drive it by joystick, add line and color sensing, then move to closed-loop drive code with calibration, motion profiles and PID control.

Welcome to Competitive Robotics. Students build their own robot on a BBC micro:bit and an ElecFreaks Nezha board, drive it from a joystick, teach it to follow a line, and then move it onto closed-loop drive code that knows how far it has gone and where it is.

This course is at the outline stage. The Course Outline lists what we talk about and roughly when: building and driving, sensors, the Nezha robot template, the robot console and calibration, the building workshops, and the later talks on motion and control.

Students move at different speeds, so the outline is a list of topics rather than a week-by-week plan.

This is a list of the things we talk about in Competitive Robotics, grouped by when a student is ready to hear them. It is not a week-by-week lesson plan.

The software behind the class lives in a few GitHub repositories. Students mostly use the first one; the rest are the pieces it is built on and the tools the instructor uses to flash and manage the robots.
