Session 2 — Clap Racing

Opening concept: A program is a set of instructions. The barcode is a tiny program already written for us.

Physical activity: PL-5 (Clap Sensor Game) — run for 3–4 minutes before introducing the barcode. Students already know the clap language by the time they scan it into Edison.

Activity:

  • Students scan the clap-control barcode (pre-set program)
  • Clap once = turn right. Clap twice = drive forward. Practice controlling Edison precisely.
  • Set up a simple race track with tape or EdMat. Two Edisons race.
  • Challenge: can you navigate the track in fewer claps?

Engineering connection: Understand + Imagine — what would you change about the track to make the race more interesting?
