Session 6 — Ball Game with a Programmed Approach

Opening concept: Can programming help you do better at the game?

Activity:

  • Ball game setup, but now students write a Card Coding program for the approach run
  • Challenge: program Edison to drive to the ball position from the start zone automatically (no clapping), then switch to clap control to nudge it to the goal
  • This requires combining pre-set barcodes with Card Coding in sequence (scan approach program, then scan clap-control barcode)
  • Score: compare programmed approach vs. pure clap control — which is more consistent?

Engineering connection: Imagine — solutions can be combined. Understand what a good approach run needs before building it.

Materials: Ball game setup, Card Coding cards, barcode list
