Session 4 — Let's Drive
Opening concept: Precise movement requires knowing how far your robot actually goes.
Physical activity: PL-3 (Two-Wheel Robot — Straight Line) — quick version, 5 minutes. Two students hold hands, walk “forward” with eyes closed. Watch them drift. Debrief: “Before we tell Edison to drive 30 cm, let’s see if it actually goes 30 cm.” Then go measure.
Activity:
- EdBlocks Activity 10: drive blocks, distance parameters
- Students program Edison to drive exactly 30 cm. Measure with a ruler. Did it? Adjust.
- Engineering loop: measure → adjust parameter → measure again
- Challenge: program Edison to drive a rectangle. All sides equal.
Engineering connection: Understand (what distance?) → Imagine (what parameter value?) → Build (program it) → Prove (measure it)
Materials: Devices, USB cables, rulers, tape for marking distances
