Session 4 — Lights and Sound

Opening concept: Output isn’t just movement — robots can communicate through light and sound.

Activity:

  • EdBlocks Activities 15–16: sound blocks (speaker output), LED light blocks
  • Students program a “robot greeting” — Edison plays a sound and flashes lights when you press play
  • Challenge: program a morse-code style message using lights (dot = short flash, dash = long flash). Teams decode each other’s messages.

Engineering connection: Communication is a system requirement — how do you know your robot did what you wanted if it doesn’t tell you?

Materials: Devices, USB cables, morse code reference sheet (simple version)
