Session 8 — Grand Challenge

Opening concept: Big challenges require combining everything you know.

Activity:

• Each team gets a “mission card” describing a course: e.g., “Drive to the ball, deliver it to the goal, then return to start and play a victory song”
• All programming done on devices, any EdBlocks features allowed
• 20 minutes to program, 10 minutes of runs, 10 minutes of debrief
• Debrief: what was the hardest part? What did you give up on and why?

Engineering connection: Real engineering involves tradeoffs and prioritization

Materials: Devices, USB cables, ball game setup, tape course, mission cards (teacher-prepared)
