Session 3 — Advanced Maze

Opening concept: Precision is earned through systematic testing.

Activity:

  • Teacher-built complex maze: 5 turns, including one U-turn, one narrow corridor
  • Remote-first: teams drive the maze with the remote, one partner narrating steps aloud while the other documents on paper. The paper plan includes estimated distances and turns. Teams then open EdBlocks and translate the plan directly.
  • Run → debug one block at a time → re-run
  • Scoring: time to completion, bonus for fewest program edits after the first run

Engineering connection: Planning before building saves time. Show the math: estimating vs. trial-and-error

Materials: Devices, USB cables, complex maze (foam noodles), graph paper for path planning
